The delivery of Letters of Credence by His Excellency Ambassador Júlio Maiato took place during a joint ceremony held at Qasr Al Watan (Presidential Palace) where another 15 foreign diplomats were also accredited by the Emirati Statesman. On the occasion, the Head of the Diplomatic Mission of Angola in the United Arab Emirates expressed, on behalf of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, his deepest thanks to the UAE leader for the relevant act, highlighting the high level of cooperation achieved so far between the two countries, through the implementation of the Bilateral Agreements signed, as well as emphasizing the need to increasingly strengthen the ties of friendship and bilateral cooperation in various fields, with a focus on strengthening economic and business relations.
In this new vision, the two countries intend to increase commercial exchanges more and more and attract a greater number of investors, as well as establish more cooperation agreements, preserving those already initialed. The high-level visits made to the United Arab Emirates, in particular those of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Angola, João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, contributed to this feat. Diplomatic relations between Angola and the UAE were formally established on 11 January 1997. In addition to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), currently part of the coverage area of the Embassy of the Republic of Angola in Abu Dhabi, the State of Kuwait, the Kingdom of Bahrain, Afghanistan (currently the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan), and the Islamic Republic Pakistan, as well as the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), based in Abu Dhabi. *His Excellency Ambassador Júlio Maiato, appointed on March 7, 2023, was born on April 21, 1958, in Saurimo, Lunda Sul Province, and has a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Diplomacy.
He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) in 1989 and in 2001 in the Diplomatic Career. Before being appointed Head of the Diplomatic Mission (CMD), he held, among other functions, the position of Director for Europe at MIREX. He was also Director of ICAESC (Institute of Angolan Communities Abroad and Consular Services) and Consul General of Angola in Dubai.
